Note: As of April 2025 , the latest Zotero 7.0.9 update breaks most of the plugins that add citation count data (See some unofficial workarounds)
Zotero users have developed plugins to add enhancements, new features, and interfaces with other programs. While they can prove to be useful, kindly use them at your discretion.
To install a plugin in Zotero, download its .xpi
file to your computer. Then, in Zotero, click “Tools → Add-ons” and drag the .xpi
onto the Add-ons window.
Among some of the more useful plugins are the following plugins that allow you to see bibliometric information, such as how many times an article has been cited.
1. Scite Zotero Plugin, by Scite (Currently broken, no solution as of yet)
This plugin to see which references in a library have received a supporting or disputing citation, as Scite
The following are three other plugins, to present bibliometric information of the references in the library. Do note that these are developed by independent users.
2. Zotero Citation Counts Manager
3. Google Scholar Citation Count
Both give an extra column "Citation count" (CCM) / "Citation Count" (GSCC). You need to update them manually by selecting a bunch of items, right-click and choose "Get citation count" (CCM) / "Update Google Scholar citation count" (GSCC).
