Research & Data Services

The Research Data Services (RDS) team is committed to supporting SMU researchers throughout the entire research data lifecycle. Our comprehensive services are designed to assist you from the initial stages of your research project through to the final publication and archiving of your data. We provide expert guidance and support across various crucial stages of the research process, including:

Discovery of literature and research data

We support researchers in the discovery phase with general literature reviews, systematic reviews, data discovery, and bibliometric analysis. We offer introductions and guidance on tools like Covidence, VOSviewer, Zotero, and various databases, helping you navigate resources efficiently in the initial phases of your project.

Analysis

We support researchers in the analysis phase with services around data cleaning, speech transcription, coding workshops, qualitative analysis, and survey analysis. Our team also provides support for research data management and access to specialized research software, ensuring you have the resources needed for comprehensive data analysis.

Writing and Publishing

We support researchers in the publishing phase with journal selection, open access publishing, and introduction to tools on creating technical or reproducible manuscripts using tools like LaTeX and Quarto.

Research Impact

We support researchers in measuring research impact through citation metrics and analysis tools like Scopus, SciVal, Web of Science, and Overton. We also help increase the visibility and influence of research outputs through services such as visual abstracts.
