Malaysian Meteorological Department

The main roles of ASMC are:
1) Monitor and assess land and forest fires, as well as the occurrence of transboundary smoke haze for the ASEAN region.

Environmental protection group Greenpeace has brought its ship, the "Rainbow Warrior", to the shores of Malaysia for the first time. The Rainbow Warrior aims to raise awareness on environmental protection and engage with local partners. Yeb Sano, Greenpeace SEA Executive Director, refers to the ship as a "symbol of hope and courage".

Worldwide alternative medicine expert and clinician, Dr. Bryce Wylde traveled to Malaysian to study the effects of the country's palm oil industry on the local rainforest and wildlife. In this video report, he addresses some of the most pervasive environmental myths and describes the many steps being taken by the Malaysian palm oil industry to protect endangered species and their habitats.

The impact of the palm oil industry on the environment is currently somewhat misunderstood. Some sources have claimed that palm oil cultivation leads to harmful deforestation and other negative environmental consequences. Contrary to what these sources claim, this video illustrates how palm oil is now cultivated responsibly and sustainably in many places -- in a way that is respectful of the environment, and that safeguards critical natural resources for the future.
