Resources for Legal Ethics and Professional Standards: Home

This resource guide consolidates the key resources for legal and professional ethics for students looking for ethical guidelines in both the study and practice of law.

Introduction

As highlighted by the Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon in his Opening of the Legal Year 2023 speech, the practice of law “is a calling to participate in the administration of justice.” Menon CJ noted that it was necessary “to emphasise the inescapable truth that being a lawyer entails a choice to live by those values of honesty, integrity and service which transcend our individual careers, cases or examinations”.

To that end, the Yong Pung How School of Law and SMU Libraries have assembled a resource guide which consolidates the key resources for legal and professional ethics in Singapore, so that students embarking on the study and, eventually, the practice of law, will be grounded in the key values and virtues necessary to be a part of this honourable profession.
