Learning Is Different! Top 3 Hacks: "Succeed in Learning" Workshops

This guide provides practical tips for you to get ready for Term 1.

"Succeed in Learning" is a series of three workshops that were specially curated for all students and conducted by the Library Peer Advisors (LPAs). The inaugural series was launched at the beginning of AY2020-21. It aimed at preparing students for both online and face-to-face learning in the upcoming Term with advice from their peers.

Session 1: Learn the Tools Your Profs Will Use - eLearn & Custom Tools

Covering where to find what in eLearn and features such as Peer and Self Feedback for reflection on collaboration and leadership skills. The INSIGHT Graduate Learning Outcome System and the Integrated Co-Curricular Management System (ICMS) are also introduced.

Session 3: Orient Your Mindsets - Smarter vs. Faster

AI tools such as ChatGPT can speed up your learning, but is that all? Orient yourself towards a positive learning mindset while upholding academic integrity! To ease your transition into SMU, we dive into the top 3 learning hacks: Study Skills, Communication Skills, and Group Work Skills.

This workshop was curated in collaboration with the Centre for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and the Office of Integrated Information Technology Services (IITS), SMU.

Session 2: Learn the Tools Your Profs Will Use - Web Conferencing & Collaboration Tools

Covering Zoom, Microsoft 365 (including Teams), Google Workspace, and WooClap. You will also learn to use Turnitin Draft Coach, a newer tool that can help you improve your academic writing and citations and check for similarity.
