"Joining the SMU Libraries has been an incredible journey, surpassing all my expectations. Like many, I initially thought it would just involve maintaining book records and ensuring silence in the library, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The library offers so much more, and my time here has undoubtedly become one of my fondest memories at SMU.
The warm, welcoming environment created by the friendly staff and their constant encouragement has made every moment as an LPA worthwhile. I've gained invaluable knowledge about library resources, enabling me to assist other students with their queries. Witnessing my friends' reactions upon discovering the library's hidden treasure of resources has been truly rewarding.
Two experiences that stand out to me the most are the LibQuest and the ASEAN Summer School Library Tours.
During the LibQuest 2023, I created an interactive and engaging environment which made students appreciate the Libraries' resources more than if they had completed the tasks independently. I was extremely humbled when a group expressed their gratitude by writing 'we love ash' in the feedback form! 😭
The ASEAN Summer School on the other hand provided us the opportunity to interact with librarians from various countries and proudly showcase our Libraries during tours. Receiving tokens of appreciation from our ASEAN librarians was an overwhelming moment that I will always cherish.

“Before I joined, I thought it would just be doing simple tasks like helping students with any enquiries they have about the Libraries, but being an LPA is so much more than that! As an LPA, we get to help our peers as well as juniors with research databases and citations for their modules. Being an LPA has always been exciting because of the numerous ground-up initiatives. We got to take charge of the ideas we pitched that we felt could help our peers.”
