This course is intended for students who wish to gain better understanding of the economics of urban growth and real estate markets; land rent and land use patterns within a city, infrastructure and real estate financing; public controls and policies. It considers the interactions between private action and public policy and regulation--including land use policy, taxation, and housing policies. Finally, the links between local housing and related markets--such as urban transportation and public finance--will be explored. By the end of the course, students should have a basic familiarity with the stylized facts of cities and urban land and real estate markets, and should understand the theoretical and empirical tools used to analyze urban real estate markets and public policy issues.
